Like many other locations situated at the foot of Serra da Estrela, and in places where water was abundant, Alvoco da Serra was an integral part of the wool industry that characterized the area and its people.
In the middle of the 19th century, in the heyday of this period, three factories came to work simultaneously, employing dozens of workers in their multiple sections. These factories were installed along the Alvoco stream since they were first powered by the diverted waters of said stream.
