As a result of human action on the natural vegetation, currently only fragments of the original forests remain, occurring mainly on steep and rocky slopes. In the surroundings of Linhares, in the transition to areas of altitude, as precipitation and cold increase, the black oak woods are the most representative forest formations. In these woods, factors related to the climate, the soil and the luminosity determine the organization of the flora in different strata, contributing to a high biodiversity. It is wonderful to observe hardwoods such as the black oak, which favor the development of an understory rich in shrubs and herbaceous plants adapted to shading.
