Carapito’s Stream

The Carapito’s Stream starts in the parish of Carapito and runs southwest for about 20 kilometres, flowing into the left bank of the river Dão in the municipality of Penalva do Castelo.

This stream has the peculiarity of being completely covered with white water lilies in the summer, and upstream from the bridge, the damming of the waters of the stream has led to the creation of wide water mirrors, which reveal the elected habitat for a huge diversity of species of fauna and flora.

The surrounding slopes are occupied by agricultural fields installed on terraces, supported by stone walls, and, also, in the higher parts, by scrub and woods of maritime pine (Pinus pinaster).
