Was inaugurated in 17 february of 1985, and it is composed by 7 permanent exhibition rooms, a temporary exhibition room, an arts library, and an experimental room. The museums collection was constituted from a donation made in 1985 and in 2001 by Abel Manta’s son, architect, painter, and graphic artist João Abel Manta. The central core of the collection is composed by pieces of painting, drawing, sculpture, and engravings by plastic artists of the Portuguese 20th century, such as Abel Manta, Clementina Moura e João Abel Manta, Sara Afonso, Dórdio Gomes, Mª Helena Vieira da Silva, between many others. Besides, this museum offers temporary exhibitions, mostly of plastic arts and photography, educational activities, such as guided and thematic tours, experimental workshops, holiday workshops and school itineraries, and it aims the participation and the engagement of a great diversity of audiences.
